Muckross House Crystal Window
We at Dreoilin Glass had the privilege to be asked to replicate a number of panels in the Crystal Window and restore it to its former glory.
The process is called Wheel Engraving or Brilliant Cutting.
A stone wheel is used to cut the design and a Wood Wheel is used with Pumice Powder for the first polish then finally a felt wheel using Cerium Powder to give its final brilliance.
Glue chip glass is a texture that looks like frost during the winter or fern like pattern on a window pane. This attractive random pattern is created by applying hot animal glue to the sandblasted surface of clear float glass and as it dries, the glue shrinks and cools, removing flakes of glass from the surface. Glue chip glass technique can be used with clear or tinted glass as well as mirrors. If extra strength is needed, it may also be tempered.
Many windows and doors use this technique to add elegance to their environment. It has been used occasionally in signs and in stained-glass windows since the early 20th century. Glue chip special properties allow every design to be different, giving a uniqueness to every piece of glass or mirror.
As the glue dries, and contracts, it pulls flakes of glass off the surface randomly. Glue chip glass is very popular for backgrounds in windows and cabinets and is especially beautiful combined with bevels and bevel clusters.

New Product
When old Mirrors become streaky and black spots appear, they require re-silvering. This process is ideal for antique mirrors and family heirlooms and gives your dark and damaged mirror a new reflection while maintaining the authenticity of the mirror.
Re silvering mirrors is not a DIY job. Many people try to touch-up their mirrors with silver paint, with poor results. For a mirror to be re-silvered properly, the original mirror backing needs to be obliterated and a whole new chemical application of silver applied.
The chemical deposition of silver onto glass is a complex process, which can only be professionally performed within a specifically designed factory environment. The process is labor intensive as we performed manually the complete process in our factory.
Silvering is a complex process of turning glass into a mirror. Commercially, we also use silvering for manufacturing toughened glass mirrors and for silvering bent pieces of glass to make them into a mirror.
Silvering is also used to apply a mirror coating on one of the complex “art” glass pieces.

Resin Designs
Resin based stained glass has become really popular in recent years to replace the more traditional lead designs. They can be made in any colour on either clear or obscure glass and can be combined with clear or tinted bevels to create a design that will look great for years to come.
Crystal Cut Designs
Brilliant cut designs are produced by etching a V shape groove into the glass which is then polished to give a very subtle but attractive finish. These are best done on clear glass in order for the design to stand out.
Glue Chip Glass Designs
Glue Chip Glass. A fern-like pattern is on one surface that resembles a window after a visit from Jack Frost. Created by applying hot glue to the sandblasted surface of clear float glass and as it dries, the glue shrinks and cools removing flakes of glass from the surface.
